A total of 102 women and girls from the community rolled up their sleeves for the Read Elementary's Playground Platoon: The Women's Build on August 15. Thanks to the support of the Women's Fund of the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation, Discover Oshkosh, and 4imprint the group was able to install the Read Rockets back drop on the softball diamond, spray paint bike racks, add stones to our entry way, add games to our back parking lot, as well as many improvements inside the school. All the additions make the space more welcoming to our staff and students that are returning to school. We are so grateful for their sweat equity!
This all inclusive BCI Burke playground, installed by our partners at Lee Recreation, will let kids dream of being fire fighters while they get their energy out! Thanks to the support of many donors, and in particular Community Development Block Grant Funds from the City of Oshkosh and funds from the Oshkosh Area School District Special Education Fund, this playground will not only let kids have fun, but will be used as alternative educational tools to help kids address their physical, social, and mental needs.

Thanks to the support of Oshkosh Mid-Morning Kiwanis, the Oshkosh Herald, and the Belles, Books and Candor Fund this book walk will promote early literacy throughout our community. Created by Muza Metal under the leadership of Chuck Galipo, these book walk stands help break up a story so that children can "walk" through a book, discussing and making predictions based on the illustrations before reading the text. This process encourages students to make connections, activate prior knowledge, and generate curiosity about the story. Because of the generosity of these donors, the book will change monthly to encourage families to keep coming back.
Thanks to the help of Zillges and Bomanite Concrete, we'll have a stage in this area where students can present on projects, or kids can perform their favorite play. This stage will allow the school to mix curriculum with fun, and once again be a space that the community can use for their own needs.
Take a book. Share a book. Created by two amazing woodworkers, our unique, official Little Free Library (Read Elementary #176075) is here. We're excited to share our mission of literacy with our students, their families, and the community around us!
Come check out our unique place for soccer. Created organically by some of our students we were able to purchase a couple of goals to help their efforts. Please feel free to bring your own soccer balls or use one of ours. Just return them when you're done!
Thanks to support from ArtsCore, local artist Neo Medina was invited to lead the Read mural project and create the design, working alongside 365 students to implement the vision. The mural features students who represent the diverse student body that makes up the Read while creating a sense of belonging and identity for students.
Thanks to our volunteers from the Women's Build, we invite you to come play Read's Candy Land. Be the first player to reach the end! Spin to find out what color you should go to, or follow the directions on where you should go. First one to the end wins... until you decide to play again!
Thanks to the help of Zillges, we'll be having an outdoor classroom available to Read classes, as a space for mentors to meet with students, and a place available to the public.
Thanks to the talents of Read parent, Andrew Kramp, who built new garden boxes, and with the help of the Women's Build volunteers in planting, we will now have vegetables and herbs available for the public. We hope the community will enjoy the Read Community Gardens!
Are there any ninja warriors out there? Come try out our ninja course! Challenge your child through this fun activity which will help them develop strength, balance, coordination, and better cardiovascular health.
To help encourage play in nature, endurance, flexibility, agility, balance, coordination, and fun, our volunteers from the Women's Build created the tree to tree walk. We hope your kids will challenge themselves in this natural space. A special thank you to Annie Kotenberg for her hard work in planning, digging, and making the walk a reality.
We are grateful to Art City Wraps for their new logo for Read, and the outdoor design in making our transformer look fun, creative, and a perfect spot for your first day and last day of school photos!
Thanks to the amazing labor of a few retired Oshkosh Corporation employees, we now have a cedar house that enriches the playground experience. It blends fun, education, and development. It's a great asset when kids can imagine they run a hotel, a restaurant, or a business while connecting with friends or simply finding shelter.
From the Netherlands, this Tulpi tulip is an innovative piece of the playground that significantly can enhance children's playtime experiences. It adds an element of fun and novelty and supports various aspects of their development, making it a valuable addition to any educational outdoor space.
These unique fire station themed bike racks were built and donated by the students and faculty of the FVTC Welding/Metal Fabrication program. We love seeing them filled with our students or visitor's bikes!
